Welcome back to Semester 2! We hope you've settled in nicely to all of your classes (dancing or otherwise) and are ready for MUDC's first Social for the semester. First up, we have a Swing Social with a LIVE BAND!

Here are the details:

Date: Friday 8th August
Time: 6pm - 10pm
Venue: Nicholas Building, Verve Studio, 37 Swanston Street, Level 2
(Enter to the left of subway, lifts on left hand side and go up to level 3) 
Cost: $8 Members, $10 Non-Members

As usual, there will be an hour long lesson at the beginning of the night followed by social dancing. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Take a break from your study time and let's swing all night! MUDC is taking you back to the 50s!

Don't know how to swing? No problem! There'll be an hour swing lesson by a qualified swing teacher from 6:30pm so come along and learn some new moves!

It's 50's themed so come dress up in your best 50's, grease or rockabilly costume! :D They'll also be heaps of food, social dancing and a live band!! You don't want to miss this!

The time has come for our annual Monash DanceSport vs. Melbourne University Dancesport Club Intervarsity Competition! It's a great way to perform what you've been working so hard on in classes and show your club spirit!

COMPETITION DATE: Friday 2nd May
ENTRY CUT-OFF DATE: Tuesday 29th April
VENUE:Dining Room, Campus Centre, Monash University Clayton
TIME: 6pm doors open, 6:30pm competition begins



WHAT IS INTERVARSITY?

Intervarsity is a friendly annual competition between the Melbourne and Monash Universities' DanceSport clubs. Members from both clubs compete in the styles of Latin, Ballroom, Salsa, Swing, Bachata and Argentine Tango, and judges will choose the winners in each category. There will also be social dancing!

WHAT IF I'M A BEGINNER?

Competition events are broken up into different experience levels so you will be competing against people at the same standard as you are, so beginners are encouraged to join!

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE NIGHT?

Doors will open at approximately 6pm, and we will begin the first event at 6.30pm. All couples competing in each category will perform their routines at the same time to set music. For the Jack & Jill events all competitors also dance at the same time, but participants will dance with someone they have not danced with before and will swap partners every 30 seconds, so will be improvising rather than performing a set routine. These events test your leading and following skills and so the Jack and Jill events are good to enter if you want to give competition a try but have not done medal classes.

IS IT VERY FORMAL?

Not at all! The whole event is quite relaxed and informal - so no competition costumes!

Dance Camp is next weekend!! 28-30 March, so get your form in today!

Whether you’re a beginner or advanced dancer, the combined Melbourne University Dancesport Club and Monash Dancesport Society Dance Camp is sure to interest you! The camp features orientation games, social dancing, different dance style classes taught by friendly and qualified teachers, and the beach!

So what are you waiting for? Come along, make new friends and enjoy dancing with fellow dance enthusiasts! Limited places are available and are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. There are 25 places available to each club for the full weekend (Friday night to Sunday morning), and a number of day passes which cover the six hours of dancing lessons plus lunch on the Saturday. That’s right – we’ve upped it to a full 6 hours of classes to give everyone more chances to try different styles! There is also a 90s themed dance party on the Saturday night where you can show off all those moves you’ve perfected in the classes! Both club members and non-members are welcome.

This year's first social is a collaboration between MUDC and Latin America 1. Socials are a great opportunity to meet MUDC members in an awesome, social dance setting. Like classes, partners are not required (it would be better coming in solo anyways and meet all the lovely people that  rock up). The social will begin with an hour lesson so beginners are more than welcome to join. The rest of the night will just be amazing, social-dancing bliss. See you all there!

Welcome back to another year at uni. We hope your holidays have been going very well and you are ready for another year of dance! (and study of course). O-Week 2014

University days are fast approaching and we're all busy preparing to make this year an amazing year for MUDC. This year marks the 21st anniversary since the club's inception and we've got a lot in store for this year!



MUDC will have a booth on the 27th and 28th of February ready to greet all its returning members and welcome its new members. Come along and join the coolest club in uni (legit, we're hip'n'happening).

Hello dancers and those who support us dancers!

We, as Melbourne University Dancesport Club (MUDC) would like to invite you to our annual showcase. What makes this night different? This is the one night we reach out to ballroom dancers with different backgrounds; we have Hip Hop, Argentine Tango, Latin...you name it. During this night we showcase the hard work of our teachers and weeks of rehearsals. We display different styles and dance and emphasise that we cater for those with no dancing background so should you be interested in joining us, you already know what the dances look like. You can also speak to one of our committee members on the night should you have any question and we will be more than happy to be of assistance.

Now getting to the important part, what will the program be like?
The night kicks off with a performance from our committee, followed by guest performances, as well as individual dance class performances. During the intermission we have a progressive dance to have our audience involved. Of course at the end of the night we have an open floor for those who would like to show off their style.

We're going back to the Jazz Age. A time when crimes of passion result in celebrity headlines, nightclub sensations and spotlight seekers coming to the stage, sly and cunning lawyers battling their wits with mafias of the towns. Join us for a night full of glamorous performances, social dancing, medal presentations and much more! This event has limited capacity so be sure to get in quick before tickets sell out!
